Pender Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands located in the Gulf of Georgia, British Columbia, Canada. It is approximately 34 km2 (13 sq mi) in area and is home to about 2,250 permanent residents, as well as a large seasonal population. Like the rest of the Southern Gulf Islands, Pender Island enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate and features open farmland, rolling forested hills, several lakes and small mountains, as well as many coves and beaches.

Fun Fact: Pender is actually two islands, North and South Pender, linked by a small bridge!

MORTIMER SPIT

Enjoy kayaking, swimming in the summer, or just a nice walk along the beach from our house. Nice shallow pools to explore when the tide is out.

MOUNT NORMAN

The highest point on Pender Island. This 3km round trip hike is short, steep, and worth every moment. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with the most beautiful views of the Southern Gulf Islands as well as the San Juan Islands and Victoria.

Ainslie Point Road entrance (north end) is the shorter, steeper and most popular route. Mt. Norman Access Road (south end) is a less steep trail up to the summit. Both entrances are walking distance from the house, making the Mount Norman Loop a great energetic walk.

OAKS BLUFF

At 100m above sea level, the view at the end of the Oaks Bluffs trail is another that is sure to impress. Featuring switchback trails and stairs to get you to the top, this is the place locals go to get some outdoor exercise. With two viewpoints and benches at the top, you can rest, catch your breath, and take it all in before heading back down.

BROOKS POINT

Offering grassy meadows, rocky shores, and a sheltered beach. Meander along the coastline, stop for a picnic, and take in the magnificent view of snow-capped Mt. Baker

Activities
